FL: 2021 Myakka Rally

Our first Florida event for 2021 took place on Saturday, January 9th.

After posting this event on the new AMOCNA website, five club members signed up with the determination to start the new year right by exercising our common passion- an Aston Martin road rally!

We gathered at an old Florida style riverside restaurant in Ellenton- a quiet town south of Tampa. Our line up included an early Meteorite Silver DB9, an early Vantage of same color, a red Vanquish which was featured a few years ago on the cover of the club magazine, and lastly, a husband/wife couple, he in a white DB9 and she in a black Vanquish – a true AM family!

The drive was 100 miles – we set off due north and west on Florida-smooth backroads with minimal traffic. Words cannot describe what fun it was! It was amazing to be able to drive with pace, change positions and be overtaken by another Aston, seeing the grace and beauty of the cars from the front and rear, and hear the awesome sound of their power as they overtake.

After about two hours, with a stop at a gas station in the middle of nowhere (see photo), we arrived at the Myakka River State Park. This was classic southwest Florida- pure nature- with many different types of wildlife to see- birds, alligators and open vistas. Fun!

It was a great day and we all left with a vow to do this again.
