LIME ROCK 51

For 51 years, Lime Rock Weekend has been special to our club members.  We come for the cars but we renew old friendships and make new ones.  The camaraderie from this event can grow into long term friendships by our members not only for this AMOCNA event but other events on a more personal level as well.

The Lime Rock Weekend is traditionally held in the Berkshire region of Connecticut and Massachusetts.  There are beautiful winding roads, quaint little towns that have excellent restaurants, and breathtaking scenery all around which are very refreshing and relaxing. Also, the region enjoys a vibrant tourism industry based on music, arts, and recreation.

This year, our club was headquartered at The Troutbeck Resort.  If you have never been to The Troutbeck Resort, I have attached a link.

Hopefully you will be considering attending Lime Rock Weekend 52 in May of 2024.  This event is usually 3 nights however many members come a day early to unpack, settle in, relax, and catch up with friends before the activities begin. Troutbeck Resort

Track Day Thursday May 18th 2023

Lime Rock Park

Beginning at 8:00 a.m., all track participants were needed at the track.

At this time, the cars are thoroughly checked for safety and the installation of timing devices. After a short briefing to all drivers to ensure they have an understanding of track protocol, the drivers are divided into 3 groups - precision, moderate, or fast.  These groups give each participant a chance to enjoy the track at their own level of comfort.

Coffee, doughnuts, and various pastries are available throughout the morning. At the end of our track time, a catered lunch is offered to all members.

AMOC Stafferton Road Rally Day 2

Why is Andy smiling? Click below to find out.

The Car Rally through the Berkshire’s beautiful scenic country roads this year was quite a show. The rally began at Troutbeck at 10:00 AM. with perfect driving weather. The length of the drive was approximately 50 miles through quaint little towns such as Armenia, Millerton, Hillsdale. If you followed the instructions correctly you were soon entering into Columbia County where you are greeted by a sign that says, “welcome to the Berkshires!” The pace of the drive was quite brisk and unencumbered by traffic lights as the Astons rolled on into Stockbridge. People along the route waved and took photos of the Astons as we approached the estate of Chris and Tiffany Greendale. There we parked our cars on the front lawn and were formerly greeted by the Greendale’s. Tiffany and Chris hosted a spectacular lunch under a tent with a catered BBQ. We were free to wander the grounds and experience cigar rolling, boutiques and a petting zoo. Did I mention the this was not the place to think about dieting!

Thank You Tiffany and Chris for your continued hospitality! The AMOCNA appreciates all that you have done for our club.

LINING UP FOR THE CONCOURS

2023 AMOCNA East Concours Award Winners

By Marc Fierman, Bob Epstein, Kathy Gaffney, & Nick Candee

2023 Concours was on the Troutbeck grounds with ample room for grouping a dazzling array of Aston Martins. Fortunately, all the activity was in front of the shed that sheltered our luncheon, as a drizzle began in about the last hour, and Members could take shelter.

Master of Ceremonies MC Joey Limongelli offered a running commentary on all the Aston Martins presented, which made for a thoughtful colloquium on AM history and model development.

The quality of cars, including some of the older Aston Martins, were excellent candidates for best of show contenders.

Jim and Nancy Utaski’s, Black DB5 has a history of “world’s best” example over time, with wins at Pebble Beach and Villa d’ Este.

Brought back from oblivion, the DB6 Saloon of Andy Greenberg, which 13 years ago was rear ended by an elderly driver and the insurance company wanted to junk the car. Dwayne Nosworthy (of noted Westchester Classic Cars & Coachwork, Danbury CT.) as well as Lance Evans and John Clerk (of Steel Wings, Ivyland, PA.) brought this DB6 back to it’s original splendor, maybe even better than new from the day that it left Newport Pagnell.

The Black DB6 Volante with tan trim belonging to Jason Hancock, was formerly from the family that ran Campbells Soup, was a lust worthy poster child for “plein ciel” Aston Martins.

Our hearts were captured by the perfection of the oldest Aston Martin in the field, a 1952-1953 DB2 Drop Head Cabriolet, in blue. This DB2 has a been part of this event since the beginning, when the late Theo Gruttman, husband of Judy, was the photographer of the first Lime Rock meetings. Theo emigrated from Essen, Germany a half century ago, becoming a noted fashion and life style photographer. His Aston Martins were exceptional, examples are, the DB3 sports racer and the DB5 coupe in Silver Birch with which Leonardo de Caprio co-starred in “Catch Me If You Can”. The DB2 convertible is a wonderful example of the coach-built cars that brought Astons back from the war time drought.
